Pelé
Pelé, the nickname of the late football legend, has officially entered the dictionary as a synonym for ‘unique’.
Pelé, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, died in December aged 82.
He was the only player to have won the World Cup three times, and is widely considered to be the best footballer in history.
The Portuguese-language Michael’s dictionary, one of the most popular in Brazil, added “pelé” as a new adjective to its online edition.
The inclusion came after a campaign by the Pelé Foundation to honour the football star gathered more than 125,000 signatures.

The perfectionism trap
We’re holding ourselves to impossible standards, no matter the circumstances.
According to psychoanalyst Josh Cohen, perfectionism is a “fundamentally childish attitude”, ultimately holding many of us back from enjoying our lives. Moreover, with accelerating competition in the job market and housing becoming increasingly insecure, many of us are spreading ourselves hopelessly thin to gain a hopeless advantage.
The arrival of the pandemic saw a reassessment of circumstances and a re-evaluation of priorities for many. But, old habits die hard, and this has often been short-lived. Here, Cohen urges us to hold on to this shift in perspective and find ways to enjoy ourselves more.

Why does cultural diversity matter?
Three-quarters of the world's major conflicis have a cultural dimension. Bridging the gap between cultures is urgent and necessary for peace, stability and development.
Cultural diversity is a driving force of development, not only with respect to economic growth, but also as a means of leading a more fulfilling intellectual, emotional, moral and spiritual life. Cultural diversity is thus an asset that is indispensable for poverty reduction and the achievement of sustainable development.
At the same time, acceptance and recognition of cultural diversity — in particular through innovative use of media and Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) — are conducive to dialogue among civilizations and cultures, respect and mutual understanding.
